Stockholm<\/a> is one of my favorite cities in the world<\/a>. I\u2019ve been there more times than I can count and I even tried to move there many years ago (spoiler alert: it didn\u2019t work out the way I planned<\/a>). It is a beautiful city.<\/p>\n The Stockholm archipelago is made up of over 24,000 islands \u2014 200 of which are inhabited. The city is home to incredible old European architecture, lots of green space, art museums, and a nightlife that\u2019s hard to beat. And everyone there is just so nice and friendly!<\/p>\n To help you make the most out of your next trip there, here\u2019s a breakdown of its best neighborhoods as well as some suggested places to stay!<\/p>\n If you don’t want to read the entire post below, the table below will give you the highlights:<\/p>\n Still here? To give you even more detail, here’s a complete breakdown of each neighborhood with suggested accommodation for each: Stockholm Neighborhood Overview<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Best Places to Stay in Gamla Stan<\/strong>:<\/p>\n BUDGET: Dockside Hostel Old Town<\/a> \u2013 This hostel is centrally located in a 17th-century building. Though it\u2019s very small, with only a few rooms and a small common area, this place is perfect if you\u2019re looking for some peace and quiet at an affordable price. There’s also a kitchen if you want to make your own meals.<\/p>\n MID-RANGE: Castle House Inn<\/a> \u2013 This quaint hotel has rooms with hardwood floors and large and classic wooden furniture, giving the inn a cozy and rustic feel. There’s a lot of natural light, decent beds, and nice showers. It\u2019s in a wonderful central location for anyone planning to visit the popular sites nearby.<\/p>\n LUXURY: Collectors Victory Hotel<\/a> \u2013 This four-star hotel has a classic ambiance inspired by its own antique maritime collection. Think antique shop meets bed-and-breakfast and you\u2019ll get a sense of its atmosphere and design. Its restaurant sources local and organic ingredients, and it has a bar on-site, as well as a sauna and pool. The rooms are really cozy and I found the beds to be really comfy. It’s one of the nicest hotels in the area. The Best Places to Stay in Norrmalm<\/strong>:<\/p>\n BUDGET: City Backpackers<\/a> \u2013 This is my favorite hostel in Stockholm. Its mattresses and pillows are super cozy, and it has a huge kitchen, tons of common space, a free sauna, free pasta, and laundry facilities. It\u2019s a very popular hostel, so book in advance! They do a lot of fun activities too. I love this place.<\/p>\n MID-RANGE: Scandic 53<\/a> \u2013 This hotel is located right near the central station, making it a convenient base to explore the city from (you can reach the airport in as little as 20 minutes from here as well). There’s free breakfast included as well. The rooms are really simple but they are quiet and you’ll get a good night’s sleep.<\/p>\n LUXURY: Scandic Grand Central<\/a> \u2013 This charming hotel is located in a building from the 1880s but boasts a fitness center, sauna, and also bike rentals. The beds are really comfy and the rooms have your typical minimalist, wood Scandinavian feel to them. Where to Stay for History: Gamla Stan<\/h3>\n

\nGamla Stan is Stockholm\u2019s Old Town. It dates back to the 13th century and is the heart of the city. It\u2019s where you\u2019ll find many of the top tourist activities, such as the Nobel Museum and the Royal Palace, as well as all sorts of little shops tucked away down narrow alleys between medieval buildings. Sure, it’s touristy and busy, but you can\u2019t visit Stockholm without exploring this part of town. It’s stunningly beautiful. Staying here is a great option for anyone looking to be right in the center of the action and it gets super quiet at night, which is an added perk!<\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nWhere to Stay for Convenience: Norrmalm<\/h3>\n

\nNorrmalm is the modern heart of Stockholm, home to its central station as well as the massive shopping street, Drottninggatan. You\u2019ll find everything in this area, from restaurants and shops to the Royal Opera to several lovely city parks. It\u2019s a great place to stay if you want to be in the heart of the city and have more affordable options than Gamla Stan. There’s not a lot of sightseeing in the area per se but it’s pretty close to all the main sights and has a lot of public transportation options.<\/p>\n
\n <\/p>\nWhere to Stay for Peace and Quiet: Vasastan<\/h3>\n

\nYou\u2019ll find plenty of green space in this part of town and it\u2019s much quieter and less touristy than neighboring Norrmalm. It’s a very “locals only” area. While there isn\u2019t a whole lot to see or do nearby, it\u2019s easy to get to the city center from here and accommodations are more affordable here than in other parts of town.<\/p>\n
